Distilled water might sound pure and safe, but for dogs, it’s not the best choice. Why? Because distilled water is “too pure.” It has been stripped of all the natural minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium that your dog’s body needs to stay healthy. Without these minerals, the body can’t maintain proper electrolyte balance, which could lead to dehydration or even health issues over time.
Another downside? Distilled water changes the pH in your dog’s body and urine, sometimes making it too acidic, which can increase the risk of urinary problems or bladder stones. Plus, it doesn’t taste good—most dogs prefer fresh, mineral-rich water because it feels more natural.
So, while distilled water isn’t toxic, giving it every day can do more harm than good. Stick to clean, filtered, or spring water for a happy, hydrated pup!
